Photogrammetry of the Mortella shipwrecks
The orthophotographic/photogrammetric surveys were carried out during all the excavation campaigns, which makes it possible to recreate their development throughout the different campaigns. The orthophotographs were taken by Christoph Gerigk at Mortella 3 and Stéphane Jamme at Mortella 2. The photogrammetries were carried out by Brandon Mason and the team of the Maritime Archaeology Trust (MAT, UK).
They were carried out with a threefold objective:
- To obtain an orthophotogrammetry of the site, in interaction with the topographic survey.
- To accurately position objects and generate a three-dimensional image of the site.
- To obtain a calibrated image of the site to enable measurements, observations and, ultimately, to help understand the layout of the site.
MORTELLA III
Under tumulus A, the remains of the hull oriented on a north-east/south-west axis were found. The keel and counterkeel are preserved along their entire length, but the stem has disappeared. The heel of the keel is on the north side. The beginning of the post is also visible. The remains located under tumulus B are symmetrical to those located under tumulus A.
Beam: 10.50 m
Keel length: 26 m
Overall length: 37 m
Depth of hold (to 2nd deck) 6.15 m
Number of masts: 3
Estimated net tonnage: 550 to 570 metric tons (11,600 to 11,900 cantares).

Photogrammetry can be used to generate planimetries of wrecks AND three-dimensional videos.
