ERS7: Antonio Santos

Antonio Santos is graduated from Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto (FLUP), with a Bachelor degree on general Archaeology, in the year of 2008/2009, after three years of course. The last year was lectured at Uniwersitet Wroclawsky (UW) under Erasmus Program.

During his Bachelor he participated in excavations and conferences such as:

  • A prospection work performed in the district of Mirandela (Portugal) under the course of Trabalhos Práticos de Arqueologia (Archaeological Practical Works).
  • One year excavating a mound barrow in Vila do Conde (Portugal) under the evaluation of Archaeologists and Technicians from the Archaeological Department of Vila do Conde City Hall.
  • Excavation of a Roman Villa in Coriscada (Portugal) under the evaluation of its coordinative team, during two months.
  • Excavation of a fortified complex (Castro) in S. Lourenço, Esposende (Portugal) under the evaluation of Archaeologists and Technicians from the Archaeological Department of Esposende City Hall, during two months.
  • Excavation of a possible Roman Via in Vila do Conde (Portugal) under the evaluation of Archaeologists and Technicians from the Archaeological Department of Vila do Conde City Hall, during two months.
  • Excavation requested by a private company in Arcos de Valdevez (Portugal) during one month.
  • Attendance on the 11th Spring Round Table minstred by FLUP, March 2007.
  • Participation and evaluated on the 10th Course of Archaeological Drawing for Beginners ministered by FLUP, in 2007.
  • Attendance on the First meeting of Archaeology from Terras de Sousa (Portugal) promoted by the Archaeological Department of Lousada City Hall, November 2007.

In September of 2010, he entered a two years Master’s program in Underwater Archaeology at the Syddansk Universitet (SDU), with a commercial diving course. In the end of masters, a field school was organized, regarding an underwater excavation, nominated Project Hedvig Sophia, a Swedish vessel from the XVII century, wrecked on North Germany. In the end of his masters, a thesis was produced with the topic “Underwater Archaeology in Portugal: Past, Present and future perspectives” with the guidance of Professor Thijs Maarleveld.
